Maldives
The Maldives archipelago is made up of 1190 islands, (with only 200 inhabited) located on the equator, forming a wide submarine mountain chain born 2000 million years ago, with beautiful coral reefs on its crest. Stretching 820km from north to south and 120km from east to west, the total surface is 90.000sqm but emerged lands are only 0.3%.
The diving in the Maldives is a wonderful experience with regular sightings of large marine species such as Manta Rays, Sharks and Whale Sharks. The Adventure II had a 100% success rate for sightings of whale sharks during 2007/2008 season, with Manta Rays being spotted on 85% of safaris. Depending upon the season, Manta Rays and Whale Sharks will move around the atolls but itineraries can be changed according to the specific diving objectives of the group.
