BLESMA (British Limbless Ex Service Men's Association) is the national charity for limbless serving and ex service men and women and their dependants and widows, providing lifelong welfare support and the fellowship of shared experience.
In September 2010 a group of 15 BLESMA members, 2 diving instructors and a safety diver joined blue o two in the Red Sea for a week of rehabilitation liveaboard diving.
Prior to their trip in the Red Sea, the group completed their confined water and theory sessions in the UK and once onboard an amazing amount of certifications were achieved...
1 x PADI Scuba Diver
4 x PADI Open Water Diver
6 x PADI Advanced Open Water Diver
7 x Enriched Air Diver
7 x Night Diver
8 x Boat Diver
Throughout the week the group took part in 254 dives, spent a total of 172 hours underwater and had a fantastic time! The 15 members demonstrated attributes such as determination, bravery, leadership, teamwork and commitment. During the non-diving periods stories and experiences were swapped and through unity and shared challenges lasting friendships were forged.

Trips like this are vital for the rehabilitation of our ex-servicemen and women and really do make a difference, proving that there is life after amputation.
