Cabo San Lucas

Cabo San Lucas is located at the southern tip of the Baja California peninsula. This city is known for its sandy beaches, world-class scuba diving sites, fantastic surfing spots and luxurious resorts.

This city was once a tiny Indian settlement and later became known by sport fishermen and surfers, before being developed to become an important holiday destination.

The 21st century saw the boom of this city and it now captures the essence of the Baja California Peninsula. Cabo San Lucas, familiarly nicknamed "Cabo" is now the ultimate spot for travellers looking for outdoor adventures.

In addition to the numerous watersports on offer and the great nightlife, the city also features some cultural and historical point of interest, such as the Spanish Missionary Nicolas Tamaral and the picturesque neighbouring main plaza. The buildings are slowly getting renovated giving this part of town a real Mexican ambience.

Diving...

Here you will find yourself in a calm little bay teeming with a huge variety of tropical fish surrounding the graceful sea fans lining the floor of this protected cove - a beautiful, tranquil spot for diving, snorkeling and photography.

These areas are home to sea turtles and several species of moray eel. A colourful collection of invertebrates, starfish, sea fans, sea urchins and sponges fill the nooks, crannies and sea floor. These great dive sites are north of Cabo San Lucas, up the corridor in Los Cabos. You can also see giant manta rays, bat rays, eagle rays, nurse sharks here and much more.

The Cabo San Lucas region offers some really great diving and most of the sites are accessible for daily excursions. Among the spots worth visiting, Cabo Pulmo National Marine Park might be a really good choice to start with. It's home to the only living coral reef on the west coast of North America and features a wide array of marine life with over 350 different species. Add to that fantastic visibility and your logbook will not have enough pages to record all your sightings!

Another great site is a tiny sea mount called "Gordo Banks". This current-beaten advanced dive (between 30 and 45m) is legendary for its seasonal hammerheads and whale sharks (June - Nov), as well as other pelagics with frequent sightings of manta rays and dolphins. The underwater landscape, if the marine life is not enough, will also surprise you with its maze of canyons covered by fan corals.

If deep dives and currents are too much for you, don't worry! Local dive sites around Cabo San Lucas, such as the "Sand Falls" or "Lands End" will make for a day of excitement. It's one of the only places in the world where you will actually be able to watch actual underwater sandfalls, an amazing work of nature!

Lastly, nearby Cabo (with some of the prettiest beaches), the Santa Maria Cove and the Chileno Bay, await you. These calm little bays are teeming with a huge variety of tropical fish, several species of moray eels and are home to sea turtles. In addition, these coves are very beautiful and tranquil, making it ideal for a day of relaxation and diving.

The town is a bustling hub for all kinds of water sports such as: sailing, fishing, snorkelling, parasailing, surfing, kayaking and jet-skiing to name only a few! Land activities are not left behind and it's very hard to choose between a horseback ride on the beach, an "off-road" buggy adventure, a tree canopy tour or a visit to the other towns such as La Paz.

Aside from all outdoor activities, Cabo is an excellent city for those of enjoy fine-dining and partying. Lots of restaurants will satisfy your taste buds and bars and clubs will take you through the night!
